November 2, 2006 : The SouthLight Board of Directors is pleased to announce the
appointment of Reynolds (Tad) Clodfelter, Jr., Psy.D. to Chief Executive
Officer of SouthLight, Inc., effective November 1, 2006.
Dr.
Clodfelter joined SouthLight in June of 2003 as Director of Clinical
Research. He became Clinical & Operations Director in March of 2006.
Previously, Dr. Clodfelter was an assistant professor in the Columbia
University, Department of Psychiatry Division of Substance Abuse, where
he had been a Research and Clinical Fellow.
Dr. Clodfelter received his Baccalaureate in Psychology from Wake Forest
University in 1991, and attained his Master of Theological Studies from
Emory University in 1995. He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology in 2000.
Dr. Clodfelter is a member of the National Institute on Drug Abuse,
Clinical Trials Network (NIDA-CTN). He has participated in clinical
trails while at SouthLight, and is the lead trainer for the North Carolina
Node of the CTN. Dr. Clodfelter is also a member of the American Psychological
Association (APA), and the North Carolina Psychological Association
(NCPA). He is a member of the Vestry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church
in Raleigh.
SouthLight is looking forward to Dr. Clodfelter's leadership and guidance
in the continuance of the SouthLight mission to eliminate addiction,
abuse, and misuse of drugs, including alcohol, in the communities it
serves.
SouthLight is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, based in Raleigh,
NC, and provides the following services:
- Youth Prevention
We offer an after-school / in-school program that provides services
for youth at-risk of substance abuse lifestyles. The program provides
life skills training, including drug resistance skills, and training
for parents.
- Youth Intervention and Treatment
We offer an outpatient, family-based substance abuse treatment program
for youth dealing with substance abuse issues and a substance abuse
educational program in conjunction with the Wake County School System.
The Wake County School System, and the community at large refer clients.
- LifePlus
This is an adult outpatient program, which includes treatment, housing,
and outreach targeting low-income clients with long histories of addictions
and multiple life problems.
- Housing and Substance Abuse Treatment for Mothers and Their
Children
We offer a family reunification program, which provides housing and
substance abuse treatment for homeless mothers and their children.
- Judicial Services
These are court-mandated services under an umbrella of programs including
assessment, education, counseling, case management, and referral to
treatment. These services are provided to both adult and adolescent
offenders who are court involved because of substance abuse or addiction.
- MAJORS
This is a structured substance abuse treatment program for adjudicated
juvenile offenders and their families.
- Strengthening the Families
We offer a multi-component family-focused program that provides preventions
services for children six to 10 years old who have substance-abusing
parents. These services include parent training (to improve parenting
skills), children's skills training (to decrease children's negative
behavior), and family skills training (to improve the family environment
by involving both generations).
- Medication Assisted Treatment
This program provides treatment and counseling to opiate addicted
clients. Methadone treatment is one facet of this program.

January 26, 2006 : SouthLight, Leading Provider of Substance Abuse Treatment, Prevention
and Education Services, Announces Retirement of its Executive Director,
and Changes on its Board of Directors.
Franklin W. Ingram, M.Div., Executive Director of SouthLight since
1995, has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2006. The Board
of Directors of SouthLight expressed great appreciation for the vision,
leadership and expertise Ingram has brought to SouthLight through many
significant challenges and opportunities. As a result, SouthLight has
experienced significant growth in its programs, client base and communities
served.
The Board also recognized Ingram for his vision and leadership in launching
an ambitious capital campaign for a new recovery campus on Garner Road
in Raleigh and collaborating on cutting edge research projects with
leading university medical centers, the National Institute on Drug Abuse
Clinical Trials Network and others. A search is underway for an executive
who will continue SouthLight's mission and vision as a leading provider
of substance abuse services.
In other actions, the Board of Directors voted to establish an Advisory
Board to build relationships, awareness and support in the communities
SouthLight serves. The SouthLight Board elected George York as founding
Chairman of the newly established Advisory Board. York will continue
to serve on the SouthLight Board. The Board of Directors elected other
officers as well. Serving as officers and Executive Committee members
are:

Other members of the Board are: Reverend Thomas J. Jackson, Mr. Gregory

John Crumpler stated that he is eager to step into his role as Chairman.
"I am looking forward to providing leadership to the Board as it selects
a new executive director for SouthLight. We are looking for a CEO who
will understand, embrace and carry on SouthLight's current plans and
initiatives and can provide leadership and vision for the challenges
and opportunities that lie ahead for SouthLight, its clients and the
communities it serves."
SouthLight, a United Way Agency, has a 35-year history of providing
Wake County with substance abuse services. SouthLight offers comprehensive
substance abuse treatment, prevention and education programs that address
the needs of youth, adults and families in our communities as they struggle
with the disease of addiction and its destructive impact. SouthLight's
mission is to eliminate addiction, abuse and misuse of drugs, including
alcohol, in the communities we serve.
Under Ingram's leadership, SouthLight began the operation and management
of the gender-specific residential substance abuse treatment services
for the Wake County Center of Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASAWORKS)
for families, and Perinatal Programs serving pregnant and post-partum
women, located in Fuquay-Varina. As part of the effort to reduce HIV/AIDS
infection among substance abusers, SouthLight partnered with the Centers
for Disease Control to establish a non-traditional test site for rapid
HIV testing and syphilis screening.
In addition to serving in Wake County, SouthLight has provided substance
abuse treatment services to the Durham community since 2004. SouthLight
has also expanded its Judicial services through its Treatment Alternatives
for Safe Communities (TASC) program in the courts of Franklin, Granville,
Vance and Warren Counties.
SouthLight is licensed by the State of North Carolina and accredited
by Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission (CARF).

October 01, 2005 : SouthLight assumed full responsibility for the operation and management
of gender-specific residential substance abuse treatment services for
the Wake County CASAWORKS (Center of Addiction and Substance Abuse)
and Perinatal programs on October 01, 2005
The Wake County CASAWORKS/Perinatal Program is a sixteen-bed substance
abuse residential treatment program that provides supportive wrap-around
services for eligible women recovering from substance abuse. The Program
also provides services to children of mothers in residence.
SouthLight services include development of a social network supportive
of recovery, enhancing the understanding of addiction, promoting successful
involvement in regular productive activity (such as school or work),
enhancing personal responsibility and promoting successful reintegration
into community living. Services are designed to provide a safe and healthy
environment for consumers and their children.
In addition to becoming abstinent, CASAWORKS participants must seek
and sustain gainful employment as a condition of the receipt of Work
First Benefits. SouthLight staff will provide treatment that stresses
balancing the demands of recovery and abstinence with the demands of
beginning and learning a new job, self-care, and parenting as well as
time, money, and stress management. Additional critical issues such
as domestic violence, legal, budgeting, training, GED, job readiness,
family reunification, health, and mental health will be addressed as
an integral part of treatment services. Upon program entry, SouthLight
will work with the women to begin establishing after-care planning to
promote continuity of care upon program completion. After-care planning
includes assisting women with securing safe, affordable housing, that
is accessible to transportation to school, day care, and work; identifying
home groups, meetings, and sponsors in the community, and transferring
benefits/services for women and children such as primary care, dental,
food stamps and Medicaid.
The services include case management, individual and group therapy,
and enhanced services as authorized, and as defined in the Wake County
Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Substance Abuse Services Provider
Manual for Fiscal Year 2005-06 located on Wake County's websie at: www.wakegov.com/general/withwakecounty/humanservice/ and as defined by the NC Division of MH/DD/SAS Service Definitions manual and/or the NC Division of Medical Assistance Medicaid Guidelines.

Institute on Drug Abuse recognizes SouthLight for its participation in
the National Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network
Your organization has the gratitude of the National Institute
on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for your willingness to participate in the National
Drug Abuse Treatment Clinical Trials Network (CTN). Your participation
in the CTN has contributed to improving the quality of study protocols
and to their relevancy. Through it's extensive knowledge of drug
abuse treatment, your organization has informed and advanced the science
of drug abuse treatment.
Your staff members have been willing participants in learning about
the conduct of research through attendance at research training programs
in areas such as Good Clinical Practice and Diagnostic Instruments.
Your experiences, gained through research training and your involvement
in the CTN, have prepared your organization to be a valuable community
resource to study important scientific interventions and programs in
real world settings. We trust that your experience with the CTN will
position you as a leader among community treatment programs in your
area.

awarded $1,000 bonus grant from WalMart
SouthLight, Inc. was awarded a $1,000 bonus grant from WalMart, Wake Forest,
on February 15, 2005. The grant was in recognition of SouthLight's Prevention
after-school program that meets at Massey Public Housing in Wake Forest.
The SouthLight Prevention after-school program in Raleigh is located on
Garner Road. We believe that every child is a package full of potential!

With Families : A shopping Basket of Skills
SouthLight was pleased to host a training workshop on February 10-11,
2005 which was designed for therapists in mental health agencies, private
practioners, social workers, substance abuse counselors, child welfare
workers, and other clinicians who are required to conduct time-limited
therapy.
John T. Edwards, Ph.D. is an approved supervisor in the American Association
for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT),
and has conducted and supervised family therapy for the past twenty-five
years. Dr. Edwards is now a private trainer and consultant, and is the
author of the books: Treating Chemically Dependent Families: A Practical
Systems Approach for Professionals and Working with Families.

Way Agency of Excellence Award
SouthLight accepted the United Way Agency of Excellence Award at the December
Board of Director's meeting. This award recognizes financial best practices.
Nine agencies out of 85 received the prestigious award, and only five
were located in Wake County.
