Judicial Services assists defendants with drug
and alcohol offenses and helps them navigate the Judicial System
The SouthLight Judicial Services division at the Justice Center manages The Wake County District Attorney’s Diversion Programs. These Programs give defendants/clients the opportunity to keep his or her criminal record clean if they comply with all terms of their program.
First Offender Drug and Alcohol Diversion Program
The defendant will complete either 15-hours of drug & alcohol education classes, or a Substance Use Assessment & recommended treatment, as well as complying with other program guidelines. Upon successful completion, the defendant will have his or her case dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office and be eligible for Expungement.
Felony Drug Diversion Program
The defendant will receive a full Drug & Alcohol Assessment, participate in and complete required treatment, complete 150 hours of community service and comply with program guidelines. Upon successful completion, the defendant will have his or her case dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office and be eligible for Expungement.
Defendants would enroll in one of these Diversion Programs on their court date. They sign a legal Deferral Agreement, with a compliance court date either 6 or 12-months later.
