Monica Slubicki, M.D, has been named Psychiatrist for SouthLight Healthcare, a nonprofit behavioral health organization that provides integrated substance use and mental health services to more than 7,000 people each year.

Dr. Slubicki received her medical degree from UNC Chapel Hill and completed her psychiatry residency at Duke University, where she was a Chief Resident. She has extensive psychiatry experience and has worked at Central Regional Hospital for the past several years.

A key role for Dr. Slubicki will be serving as a psychiatrist for SouthLight’s Assertive Community Treatment Team, which is a community-based multidisciplinary team for those struggling with severe and persistent mental health challenges and difficulties participating in traditional outpatient services.

Dr. Slubicki shares that her training and interests are around recovery and patient-focused care and person-focused care. She says, “I think it is important to marry those topics and help people understand that the evidence shows that focusing on what people want for their lives leads to better outcomes for individuals who live with mental illness diagnosis.”

She believes individuals with mental illness should be in charge of their own goals, their future and treatment. “It’s a partnership and collaboration.”

“I feel invigorated by all the optimism and promise around me. I can’t wait to grow with this recovery-oriented organization.”
