SouthLight Peer Support Team has a Green Thumb

The work of our Peer Support Team in Durham extends beyond supporting clients and helping them navigate essential services, such as looking for jobs, finding healthcare, and housing.

We also help clients secure food, and often we can provide it right out of the community garden in our backyard in Durham!

In partnership with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, our Peer Support Team helps maintain the Geer Street Learning Garden in Durham. We have 3 plots in the garden and our team does all the watering, fertilizing, weeding, planting, and harvesting.

This summer, they planted tomatoes, okra, bush beans, peppers, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, and basil. All the food is then donated to our clients in need. We are grateful to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle for such an amazing community collaboration!
