Dr. Gabrielle Denize Newsam has been named Medical Director of SouthLight Healthcare’s Opioid Treatment Program. Dr. Newsam has been providing care to those with opiate use disorder in outpatient treatment programs for over 10 years.

With a recently renovated and expanded facility, SouthLight’s Opioid Treatment Program provides a safe and healthy environment that supports nearly 600 people in their recovery from heroin and other opiates each day.  

SouthLight Healthcare is one of the area’s largest nonprofit providers of outpatient and community services for mental health and substance use treatment. SouthLight has been a trusted provider of opioid treatment in Wake County for over four decades.  With a recently renovated and expanded facility, SouthLight’s Opioid Treatment Program provides a safe and healthy environment that supports nearly 600 people in their recovery from heroin and other opiates each day.  

Dr. Newsam believes in treating the whole person; she helps her patients not only cope with their opiate use disorder, but also their medical conditions. In line with Dr. Newsam’s treatment philosophy, SouthLight’s Opioid Treatment Program provides care for the emotional and medical needs of its patients, using both medication-assisted treatment and counseling.   

She holds an Associates in Science and a Bachelors in Biology from City University of New York Medgar Evers College, a Bachelors in Sports and Health Science from American Military University, and a medical degree from Rutgers Medical School (formerly known as University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School).
